Hello! Welcome to Groom Forge.
Groom Forge operates at the intersection of professional pet styling, foundational education, and workforce development. We’ve created a formalized way into—and through—the profession by connecting education, industry credentials, employment, and Registered Apprenticeship within one flexible framework centered on safety, occupational health, animal welfare, and technical skill. We are intentionally bridging the gap between certification and a car payment—one skilled groomer at a time.
Okay, but what is Groom Forge?
Groom Forge is a federally recognized, multistate Registered
Apprenticeship sponsor for professional pet styling. Through
participating employer salons, education partners, and a
structured system of Related Technical Instruction and paid
on-the-job learning, we help turn education into experience
and experience into sustainable employment.
Our framework is designed to support multiple starting points.
Learners may enter through foundational education, an industry
certification, a college or trade program, an employer salon,
pre-apprenticeship, or directly through the Registered
Apprenticeship pathway.
Different doors. One connected way forward.
Carrying over credentials?
We love a good certificate. We just don’t believe your
education should become decorative paperwork the moment
you enter a new program.
Groom Forge evaluates documented education, industry
credentials, and prior experience for alignment with our
apprenticeship requirements. Successfully completed Groom
Forge modules and preapproved partner equivalents may be
credited toward corresponding Related Technical Instruction
requirements. Other education and experience may be reviewed
individually for prior-learning credit or advanced standing.
This allows community colleges, trade organizations, industry
educators, and certification providers to retain their distinct
programs while giving learners a meaningful way to carry
verified progress forward.
Bring us what you’ve learned. We’ll help determine where it fits.
So…do I get paid?
The Registered Apprenticeship is an employment-based pathway.
Registered apprentices earn progressive wages for their
on-the-job learning and regular work performed through a
participating employer salon.
Related Technical Instruction is the required educational
portion of the program. RTI is completed separately and is
not paid working time, although eligible learners may receive
workforce funding for approved tuition, books, tools, or
other educational expenses.
Not ready for the full commitment yet? Groom Forge
pre-apprenticeship modules offer a flexible place to begin
without requiring employment or enrollment in the complete
apprenticeship. If you continue later, successfully completed
aligned modules can move forward with you as prior learning
toward corresponding RTI requirements.
Start small. Keep your progress. Build when you’re ready.
Who’s at the table?
Groom Forge is independently sponsored by a family-owned
organization and guided by a representative committee that
brings employers, educators, workforce partners, advocates,
and working professionals into the same conversation.
Our founder is a working professional pet stylist and
currently serves as Idaho State Delegate to WAGA, the World
Alliance of Grooming Associations. That combination of
industry participation and hands-on experience helps keep
Groom Forge connected to both the systems shaping the
profession and the people performing the work every day.
Where appropriate and permitted, the sponsor and committee
work across traditional administrative boundaries to remove
unnecessary barriers, coordinate support, and improve outcomes
for employers, employees, learners, and every pet touched by
the program.
Forged in Idaho. Built to Last.
Groom Forge’s Registered Apprenticeship footprint extends
across multiple states through its sponsor framework and
participating employer relationships. In Idaho, that work
is most visible through local employer salons, community-based
education, workforce partnerships, and our headquarters in
Caldwell.
The framework is also designed to work with community colleges,
trade organizations, employer-based programs, and other
qualified education partners—allowing each institution to
retain its identity while connecting learners to a larger
career pathway.
